Advantages of Central PV Inverters:

1. High Power Density and Low Cost: Large capacity per unit, high integration, and low cost per unit power, suitable for large-scale PV power plant applications.

2. Convenient Centralized Management and Maintenance: Fewer inverters, facilitating unified monitoring, fault diagnosis, and energy dispatch, reducing operation and maintenance complexity.

3. High Power Quality: Low harmonic content, low DC component, stable power factor of output AC power, and harmonic distortion rate limited to below 3%, meeting grid connection requirements.

4. Strong Grid Regulation Capability: Equipped with power factor regulation, low voltage ride-through, and anti-islanding protection functions, enabling rapid response to grid dispatch commands and improving system stability.

5. High Reliability: Utilizing mature control technology and high-current IGBT power devices, resulting in a low failure rate and long mean time between failures (MTBF).

Disadvantages of Central PV Inverters:

1. Limited MPPT tracking efficiency: Typically equipped with only 1-2 MPPTs, independent optimization for each PV string is impossible. Overall power generation efficiency drops significantly when modules are shaded, have performance differences, or are oriented inconsistently.

2. Poor module configuration flexibility: The narrow MPPT voltage range requires high precision in the number of PV modules connected in series and consistent parameters, making it difficult to adapt to complex terrain or distributed layouts.

3. High single-point failure risk: A failure in the inverter or DC combiner box could lead to a complete power plant shutdown, necessitating redundant design or backup power to mitigate this risk.

4. High initial investment and operation and maintenance costs: Requires a dedicated equipment room, ventilation and cooling equipment, and supporting facilities, increasing land occupation and civil engineering costs; regular maintenance requires professional engineers, and there are many types of spare parts with long fault location times.

5. High heat dissipation energy consumption: Forced air cooling design results in high power consumption of the equipment room itself and high heat dissipation energy consumption, further increasing operating costs. Limited power generation time: On cloudy or rainy days or under low light conditions, due to the narrow range of MPPT voltage, it may not be able to fully utilize available solar resources, thus shortening the effective power generation time.
