Energy storage solutions refer to the process of storing energy through media or devices and releasing it when needed. Here are some major energy storage solutions and technology types:

1. Electrochemical Energy Storage

Definition and Characteristics: Stores electrical energy using lithium-ion batteries, flow batteries, etc., primarily for operations lasting from minutes to hours. It offers advantages such as flexible deployment, fast dispatch response, and high control precision.

System Composition: Mainly consists of battery modules, a power generation converter (PCS), a battery management system (BMS), and an energy management system (EMS).

Application Scenarios: Includes grid-side energy storage, generation-side energy storage, and user-side energy storage, such as smoothing fluctuations in renewable energy generation, participating in peak shaving and frequency regulation in the electricity market, and improving user-side energy efficiency.

2. Physical Energy Storage

Pumped Hydro Storage: Utilizes electricity generated during off-peak hours to pump water to higher ground for storage, then releases the water to generate electricity during peak hours. It has advantages such as mature technology, large capacity, and long lifespan, but is significantly limited by geographical conditions.

Compressed air energy storage: During off-peak electricity demand, compressed air is transported underground under pressure. When the electricity load is high, the compressed air drives a gas turbine to generate electricity. It has advantages such as large scale, long lifespan, and short construction period, but its efficiency is relatively low.

Flywheel energy storage: Utilizes a high-speed rotating flywheel to store energy in the form of kinetic energy, which is then released when needed. It has advantages such as fast response speed, long lifespan, and no pollution, but its energy density is relatively low.

3. Other energy storage technologies

Thermal energy storage: Storing thermal energy through energy storage devices for use during periods without sunlight, such as solar thermal utilization systems.

Hydrogen energy storage: Converting electrical energy into hydrogen energy for storage, and then converting hydrogen energy back into electrical energy through fuel cells or other methods when needed. It has advantages such as long storage time and high energy density, but its current technological maturity is relatively low.
