The Core Working Principle of a Single Phase Inverter

The working principle of a single-phase inverter is to convert direct current (DC) into single-phase alternating current (AC) with adjustable frequency and voltage through the switching action of power electronic devices. Its core process can be divided into three stages: DC input, inverter conversion, and AC output. The specific principles and key technologies are as follows:

1. DC Input

The input of a single-phase inverter is a DC power source (such as a battery, photovoltaic array, or rectified AC). Filtering circuits (such as capacitors and inductors) eliminate ripple and noise in the DC power, ensuring a stable input voltage.

2. Inverter Conversion (Core Stage)

By controlling the on/off state of the switching transistors, the DC power is divided into a series of pulse signals. These pulse signals are then smoothed into sinusoidal AC power by the filtering circuit. The specific process is as follows:

Switching Transistor Action: Taking a full-bridge inverter as an example, the four switching transistors (Q1-Q4) are alternately turned on according to a specific timing sequence. For example, when Q1 and Q4 are on, the current flows from the positive DC terminal through Q1, the load, and Q4 back to the negative terminal, and the voltage across the load is positive. When Q2 and Q3 are on, the current flows in opposite directions, and the voltage across the load is negative.

Pulse Width Modulation (PWM): The amplitude of the output voltage is controlled by adjusting the on-time (duty cycle) of the switching transistors. For example, a larger duty cycle results in a higher output voltage.

Frequency Control: By fixing the switching frequency, the frequency of the output AC power is synchronized with the mains frequency.

3. AC Output

The inverted AC power still contains high-frequency harmonics and needs to be further smoothed by an output filter (such as an LC filter) to ultimately output a pure sinusoidal AC power.
